At-home semen analysis can provide helpful insight into sperm health and fertility potential. However, semen parameters can vary significantly from one sample to the next, even in the same person. Because of this natural variability, fertility specialists do not make a diagnosis based on a single semen analysis. If results are abnormal, borderline, or unclear, we typically recommend repeating the test at least two weeks later to get a more complete picture of sperm health.
A normal semen analysis does not guarantee pregnancy. Fertility challenges can still be related to female factors, including ovulation disorders, hormonal imbalances, age-related changes in egg quality, fallopian tube issues, endometriosis, or other reproductive health conditions. If pregnancy has not occurred after several months of trying, a comprehensive fertility evaluation for both partners can help identify the underlying cause.
