Dr. James F. Smith is a nationally recognized urologist specializing in male fertility, sexual health, and reproductive medicine. In addition to seeing patients at Collab, Dr. Smith also directs the Male Sexual and Reproductive Health program at UCSF, where he provides fertility preservation counseling and treatment for men.
Dr. Smith evaluates and treats a wide range of male reproductive health concerns, including infertility, low testosterone, erectile dysfunction, and Peyronie’s disease. His clinical expertise includes sperm retrieval, microsurgical vasectomy reversal, and surgery to treat varicoceles, which can affect fertility.
His research focuses on improving the understanding of male reproductive biology and translating those findings into more effective fertility treatments. Dr. Smith earned his medical degree and master’s degree in health and medical sciences through the joint medical program at UCSF and UC Berkeley. He completed his general surgery internship and urology residency at the University of Utah before returning to UCSF for fellowship training in andrology.
In his leisure time, Dr. Smith enjoys playing squash, coaching basketball, and cheering for the Golden State Warriors.
