Common questions about IVF

Can I have my first appointment virtually?

Yes. Patients can begin with a virtual consultation from anywhere in the world and may also request an in-person appointment.

How many times will I need to travel?

The number of trips depends on your treatment plan. Patients using their own eggs should generally plan for an egg-retrieval visit of approximately 14 to 16 days. Patients who will carry the pregnancy may need a separate frozen embryo-transfer visit of approximately three to four days. Patients using donor eggs or a gestational carrier may require less travel. These are estimates, and your care team will provide guidance based on your individualized plan.

Can I complete testing in my home country?

Yes. Much of the preliminary testing and monitoring may be completed locally, with results sent to Collab for review.

How long should I plan to stay in California?

The total time may be approximately three weeks, depending on your treatment plan, and the stay may not need to be continuous. Your care team will provide a more specific estimate after reviewing your medical history and goals.

Will someone help coordinate my treatment schedule?

Yes. Your international patient liaison will provide guidance beginning with the initial consultation, help you understand nursing and treatment instructions, and coordinate communication with your care team.

Can you work with my physician at home?

Yes. Collab can communicate with your local physician and coordinate care as appropriate for your treatment plan.

What happens after I return home?

If you become pregnant, ongoing pregnancy care will continue with your local obstetric provider. Collab can provide relevant records and support the transition to local care.
